10 Worst Genre Switches In Rock Music History

1. Raditude - Weezer

Ever since Weezer came back from the brink in the '90s, things have never really been on solid ground. Although there have been some definite highlights to be found on albums like the Green Album and Maladroit, the sounds of Make Believe made people worried that they were going down a more pop centric road. After getting a bit more personal with the Red Album though, Rivers Cuomo showed us that he had not yet begun to sell out.

Hooking up with all of the biggest producers in mainstream pop at the time, Raditude is the first time Weezer have tried to transition to pop stardom...and falling flat on their faces. Pretty much right after the album opener I Want You To, the songwriting takes a nosedive, with tracks like I'm Your Daddy and Trippin Down the Freeway sounding like dads trying to fit in with their kids and embarrassing themselves.

And while the meme of the line "it's Weezer and it's Weezy" might be funny for about 5 seconds, no one in the world was asking for a song like Can't Stop Partying, which basically commits every wrong step that the band could make. If their comeback with Everything Will Be Alright In the End is any indication, Weezer is always much better being themselves than trying to be the hot new pop band.
