10 Worst Hard Rock Albums Ever Made
6. Devil Without a Cause - Kid Rock
For as much as it is laughed at nowadays, the golden age of nu metal actually had some promise to it. It might be fun to point and laugh at the cringey fashion and goofy lyrics, but Rage Against the Machine always kicked ass nd even Korn had a few decent bars across their first few albums. On the other hand, Kid Rock ended up representing everything wrong with nu metal on Devil Without A Cause.
Across its crushing runtime, every one of these songs sounds like it was written by Rock while he was half drunk and just needed a song to feed his persona. It also might not have helped matters that Rock played up the persona of what can only be described as badass cowboy pimp.
That description is already gross saying it out loud, but the fact that there is no substance underneath it just makes it that much more unfortunate.
Even with everything stacked against it, this album was actually successful, being certified Diamond in the US alone. All that...for an album that was sold off of a single whose chorus was pure baby gibberish. Kid Rock definitely has a much better lane in the world of country music, but as far as the rock sphere goes, this is the kind of record that people point to when they accuse the genre of being dead.
