10 Worst Hard Rock Lyrics Of The 1970s
8. Miss You - The Rolling Stones
Worst Offender: "You've Just Been Blotting Out My Mind, Fooling on my Time, No I Won't Miss You Baby."
Can we all just agree that the Rolling Stones going disco was a mistake?
At a time when the sounds of Chic and Donna Summer were all the rage, many of rock's elder statesmen were trying to hop on the disco hype train, often with disastrous results. While there are certainly cringier moments like Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy," the Stones fumbled right out of the gate with "Miss You."
For all of its faults, I could almost see some of this working. From a musical standpoint, the wordless hook line is amazing catchy, but the only problem comes when Mick Jagger has absolutely nothing to follow it up with. Though he does try to infuse some of that lonely heart style of songwriting the Stones have been known for, the ongoing repetition of the same lines over and over again is really disappointing coming from one of the greatest rock bands ever.
Though disco is a fantastic art form unto itself, the Stones attempts at playing with the cool crowd made them sound like dads trying to fit in with the rest of the "kids these days." There's no disputing the phenomenal work the Stones have put out, but these lyrics sound like a first draft that just so happened to become the lead single off of the album.
