10 Worst Hard Rock Lyrics Of The 1970s

3. Door To Door - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Worst Offender: "This stuff'll get the stain out if you use it loosely wadded, This here'll take the pain out and won't mess your hair."

It is just sad to see the way Creedence Clearwater Revival's career petered out. After a thousand different legal disputes between the band's finances and guitarist Tom Fogerty quitting in protest, the band's final release Mardi Gras shows the greatest band in boogie rock as a shadow of their former self. Almost every bad idea was brought to the table on this one, but the worst has got to be when they let the others sing.

Aiming for a more equal share in the album, the songs are divided up between the three band members. Only problem is the other guys....they're not songwriters. In bassist Stu Cook's offering "Door to Door," the band tells one of the most cornball stories in the rock canon, with a guy acting as a salesman going through a neighborhood selling what could be either some adhesive or cleaner depending on which interpretation you follow.

This song could have been saved with a decent vocal performance, but Stu is also not the greatest singer, which makes most of this shouting sales pitch an absolute chore to listen to. Mardi Gras does have its brighter moments on it, but the amount of awful material on "Door to Door" certainly warrants all of the vitriol it has gotten.
