10 Worst Hard Rock Lyrics Of The 2000s

9. Fat Lip - Sum 41

Worst Offender: "Trashed my own house party 'cause nobody came."

Sum 41 seems to be the one pop-punk band that the hard rock crowd sort of gives a pass to. As the band have moved on from their more adolescent days, they have blossomed into one of the most sturdy punk acts of the modern age, with a three-guitar attack and an emphasis on heaviness. On the other hand, it's not like the band can necessarily erase time either.

Though each member had vastly different influences, the rap sections of "Fat Lip" reek of the '00s boom, as if executives said "pop-punk is cool, nu metal is cool, put them together." There are some pretty impactful lines in the song about teen angst, but the band starts to really stretch when they talk about wrecking their own house party because nobody came.

As healthy as it is to get your anger out about having no friends, at the end of the day, you still have a trashed living room and you can't even say you had fun doing it. After breaking the mold, Sum 41 quickly become a hard-edged punk act and have now successfully moved on from their "edgy punk boys" days. "Fat Lip" may still have a nostalgic hold on many rock fans, but there are some lines on this track that aren't worth returning to.
