10 WORST Metallica Songs Ever
4. Some Kind Of Monster - St. Anger
Going back on the pain train, St. Anger's writing sessions seemed doomed from the start. Starting with Jason Newsted leaving due to creative differences, the band began to spiral during the sessions which led to James going to rehab and the band going to therapy to sort out their personal problems. And it all came to an ugly juggernaut on "Some Kind of Monster."
For its crushing length and lack of direction, never has a Metallica song lived up to its title, with much of the song dominated by one of the most lethargic riffs that Hetfield has ever thought up. Complete with a runtime of 8 MINUTES, this song is a long journey of walking around in a circle. People usually get excited when looking at a long runtime on a Metallica release, but this song is the price that fans paid for anticipating those longer cuts.
Even at the start time, the song features an intro that goes on for nearly 3 minutes, all leading up to Hetfield spitting lyrics about building a Frankenstein monster until we get the title namedrop. Though this song eventually became the name of the unofficial documentary of the album, this song stands as more of a document of the times rather than a fully fleshed-out song.
