10 WORST Metallica Songs Ever

3. Invisible Kid - St. Anger

For as much that has been said about Metallica's crossover potential, none of their delves into the mainstream have ever felt disingenuous. Even though many Metallica fans will line up to bash a song as sugary as "Nothing Else Matters," those songs still feel like they're coming from a genuine place. Once we reached the 2000's, that pandering criticism seemed fairly apt when talking about "Invisible Kid."

St. Anger tends to get treated as the album where the band went nu metal, but the actual lyrical delivery on this song feels like it's trying to get radio stations onboard. With the singsongy delivery that James puts on the verses, the actual lyrics are infectious in the worst possible way. Instead of coming off like a punk-leaning lyrical barrage, this sounds more like something that you would hear being taunted at you on a playground rather than being delivered by a Metal God.

This album isn't indicative of all of St. Anger's problems, but it does showcase some of the worst sounds in metal that don't deserve to have the name Metallica next to them. This may have been an attempt at "mainstream" Metallica, but poppy Metallica mixed with whatever the hell this is should have never seen the light of day.
