10 Worst Number One Rock Albums Of The 1990s

9. Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell - Meat Loaf

16 years after he released the mega-selling Bat Out of Hell in 1977, Meat Loaf decided to re-tread his most famous ground and put out a sequel.

Possibly because he'd been struck by creative inspiration, possibly because he needed the cash.

The world bore witness to Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell, and Loaf-a-mania swept the nation once more. Though it didn't sell nearly as well as its predecessor (that would have been a miracle), enough people purchased this album to send it to number one over Hallowe'en weekend 1993.

Alas, as with most sequels, Back into Hell opened itself up to negative comparisons with the original.

Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman's over-the-top rock-opera stylings were considered comically out of date, especially in the same year that Nirvana's In Utero and Pearl Jam's Vs. topped the charts.

Everything felt far too derivative of what had come before, with the initial surprise factor of the first record completely gone. Still, several songs from the album have endured, especially I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That), which has been opening doors for humorous speculation ever since.
