10 Worst Number One Rock Albums Of The 1990s

8. Adrenalize - Def Leppard

Five years on from their career-defining 1987 album Hysteria, Def Leppard were back with another album with a similar title - Adrenalize.

This was the first time the band had recorded without guitarist Steve Clark, who had died the year before, but even in the face of tragedy, the band were able to pull it out of the bag and release a record that spent a whopping five straight weeks at the top of America's musical mountain.

However, in that half-decade away from the spotlight, Leppard had spent their time becoming obsessed with soppy ballads.

Whilst there were a few of them on Hysteria, things went into overdrive on the follow-up. Make Love Like a Man and Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad stand out as particularly cheddar-like, but even the more upbeat tracks have a horrible inauthenticity to them that can pull a listener out of the moment.

Adrenalize is perfect for fans who like fun, uncomplicated hair metal, but for anyone who prefers to pay attention to their music, Def Leppard's first of three 90s offerings has very little to offer.
