10 Worst Performances In Rock Music History
7. Red Hot Chili Peppers on SNL
For every rock band chasing their dream, fame can be an extremely mixed bag. Even though having millions of adoring fans around the world sounds amazing at first, you also have to worry about not having privacy anymore and always being in the tabloids no matter what you do. To cope, a lot of bands turn to drugs, and that chemical imbalance got the better of the Red Hot Chili Peppers when they ducked into 30 Rock back in the '90s.
After breaking through with Blood Sugar Sex Magik, the Peppers were ready to play their ballad Under the Bridge, which was not what John Frusciante had in mind. Being strung out on heroin for most of the tour, John wasn't really a fan of being on a stage like this, and proceeded to play the opening guitar riff while looking down at the floor and rearranging the entire song.
That's fine if you're rehearsing the tune, but catastrophic when you're on live television, with Anthony Kiedis struggling to find his place as Frusciante is off in another world at stage left. At the time, this is the moment when Kiedis started to feel strained with Frusciante in the band, almost being hung out to dry in front of the audience with nothing to do about it. A lot of time has come and gone between the Peppers of old though, and let's hope we don't have to worry about anyone falling off the wagon like this again.
