10 Worst Performances In Rock Music History
8. Led Zeppelin at Live Aid
There's no reason to think why something from Live Aid could be anything less than perfect. Aside from the relief funds that were running the show, every single act came prepared to kill it, from Queen's definitive live performance to U2 becoming one of the biggest acts in music during their performance of the song Bad. And to add the cherry on top, we had a near miracle by bringing Led Zeppelin together again, except with a few more rough edges than you remember.
Still in exile after dealing with the loss of John Bonham, the mini Zeppelin reunion of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant seemed great at the outset, with Phil Collins substituting on drums to fill out Bonzo's drum parts. Timing is a big thing in rock music though, and none of the guys were really ready to get the job done that day, with Collins only being marginally familiar with the songs he was about to play.
It's not like Plant and Page were exactly on their A-game either, since Robert had been trying to rest his voice after playing shows for the previous few nights and Jimmy playing a guitar that barely manages to stay in tune as he tries to make it through some Zeppelin cuts. Compared to the show stopping stuff that happened the rest of the weekend, this is one of the few jams from the day that probably worked a lot better in the minds of the promoters than in practice.
