10 Worst Rock Band Member Replacements
7. Matt Skiba Replaces Tom DeLonge - Blink-182
Only five different men have ever been official members of pop punk idols Blink-182.
There's Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker, the current gang, and then there's Scott Raynor, the original drummer who Barker replaced, and Matt Skiba, who was guitarist and vocalist between 2015 and 2022.
Skiba had found success with a band he started called Alkaline Trio before Hoppus and Barker got in touch. DeLonge had left Blink after a very public fallout with their management, so a new arm of the triumvirate was needed.
Unfortunately, whilst the other two members were Octavian and Marc Anthony, Skiba turned out to be more of a Lepidus. Bit of Ancient Roman humour for you there.
Whilst some of the songs with Skiba on turned out alright, it felt like there was something missing from Blink the entire time he was there.
Hoppus' vocals dominated proceedings, which kind of defeated the point of having two singers in the first place, and, eventually, DeLonge was brought back in for a new album called One More Time..., which released in 2023.
Skiba was dealt a bad hand, sure, but this was still a big let-down.
