10 Worst Sellout Rock Albums Of All Time
8. Just Push Play - Aerosmith
After a handful of years in the dark, things were starting to look up for Aerosmith. After spending the back half of the '70s in the doldrums, the band became mainstays in the '80s before having their first #1 hit in 1998 with the success of I Don't Want to Miss A Thing. So where do you go from there? Well... check cashing time apparently.
With the release of Just Push Play in the early '00s, one of the dirtiest bands of the early days of rock and roll had suddenly gotten a pop makeover. Gone were the throaty riffs that hit like a sledgehammer, with Joe Perry's guitar crunch being replaced with a clean guitar polish on songs like Jaded. Though the band had worked with outside songwriters before the release of this album, their collaborations with Diane Warren and Desmond Child on this record ended up sounding like an AI robot trying to write an Aerosmith song.
Even with all the backlash from their hardcore fanbase, Aerosmith kept going down this road with Girls of Summer, which ended up not sitting well with the band shortly afterward. While they eventually went back to their roots with a blues covers album, Just Push Play is something that everyone should eject sooner rather than later.
