10 Worst Sellout Rock Albums Of All Time
4. Pablo Honey - Radiohead
Radiohead have become one of the most celebrated acts in the history of rock music. Across three decades, the band have changed genres, put out several masterpiece albums, and are content with letting their creative minds guide them from one experiment to the next. At the same time, you wouldn't really get that from listening to Pablo Honey.
When the band first got together, their sound seemed much more in tune with the art rock bands they grew up with like Talking Heads, but most of their debut saw them riding the grunge wave wherever it would take them. Even the band's biggest single Creep has become a point of contention with the members, who refused to play the song for a number of years.
As a whole, the album isn't too bad, but the marketing plan of releasing Creep amid the slew of other alternative rock songs put the band in dangerous territory, almost relegating them to one hit wonder status. Though the band couldn't find a footing in the early days, The Bends saw them breaking out of their shell with more thoughtful material, which eventually culminated in their first masterpiece with Ok Computer. Pablo Honey might not be the worst rock album ever, but Radiohead's initial rise to fame became a glaring case of "right band, wrong album."
