10 Worst Villains Of Rock And Roll Music

8. The PMRC

For as dumb as the golden age of rock and roll sounds today, the likes of Elvis Presley and Little Richard sounded amazing because of how dangerous they were. Compared to the teen idols of previous decades and the Frank Sinatra era of music, these were freaks of nature who were bringing their off the wall music to the forefront with no holds barred. It's always fun to see...until the parents decide they need to step in.

Around the early '80s, the Parents Music Resource Center set about censoring certain rock songs for their lude material, with the "Filthy 15" being singled out as prime candidates for their crude nature. While there have been some questionable lyrics in rock every now and again, the musicians were having absolutely none of it, with Dee Snider, Frank Zappa, and Black Lawless each taking time to go down to Washington and plead their case for the freedom of speech in music.

Though the PMRC eventually won out with their Parental Advisory stickers being labeled on albums, the whole thing backfired spectacularly by virtually turning into an advertisement for kids, letting them know that this were a slightly more edgy style of music than they were used to. The parents may have had their children's best interests at heart, but when it comes to rock and roll, no one needs to tell you what music you should listen to.
