3. Pins
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eee1ydutV5k Audaciously rattling the eardrums of anyone fortunate enough to enter Pins' realm has resulted in an extremely focused, cult-like following for the Mancunian group. Their unrelenting, unforgiving, unashamed take on post-punk has grabbed serious attention throughout the blogosphere, while maintaining an air of quality that usually gets sucked up by the expectant hipsters so quick to corrupt a band who garner the slightest bit of attention. After releasing quietly-cool debut 'Girls Like Us' in 2013, the band went on to have multiple festival dates as well as support slots with Warpaint and Dum Dum Girls. Mixing conviction (a rare thing in new bands) with resounding songs like 'Mad For You' and 'Waiting for the End', the band are able to amass the kind of late-'70s/early-'80s excitement that helped propel acts like Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Bauhaus to success. Pulsating basslines and clattering drums also help to recall Joy Division's most boisterous work. Interestingly, Pins share the same record label (the ever-brilliant Bella Union) as the other band compared to Joy Division on this list, M O N E Y. In another coincidence, both bands also happen to hail from the same city, Manchester, much like Joy Division themselves. Just like Bella Union have, hopefully everyone else will soon start to catch on to the resurgence in Mancunian greats at a truly exciting time for the city's music scene.
