12 Best Hard Rock Deep Cuts

4. Platypus (I Hate You) - Green Day

Since their inception, it's safe to say that Green Day are a different band than we first got to know them on Dookie. Across their discography, the band have taken on a variety of different genres from garage rock to folk to the rock opera.

In that mix, Nimrod stands out as one of the best most eclectic releases, with songs that differed greatly from their pop-punk sound. That didn't mean that the band had completely gone pop-rock on a whim though. From the starting notes of "Platypus (I Hate You)," this song hits you right in the center of your chest with its wall of guitars.

The energy of the song is incredibly frantic, with a tempo that leaves anyone trying to cover the tune completely exhausted. The lyrics of the track show Billie Joe Armstrong condemning someone as being a worthless hollow shell of a human. The climax of the track has Armstrong checking every expletive-fueled insult towards our unfortunate protagonist in rapid succession.

Most fans of heavier music may not think of Green Day as one of the first bands to blow out your speakers, but "Platypus" is a track whose energy is pure punk bombast from start to finish.
