12 Best Hard Rock Drum Solos
6. Cobwebs And Strange - The Who
Aside from being just a great drummer, Keith Moon was one of the greatest characters in the rock and roll scene. His antics both on and offstage were always the pinnacle of rock and roll decadence, from trashing hotel rooms to pulling practical jokes on anyone within a 1-mile radius. Though Moon did write the odd song for the Who here and there, none capture his personality as well as "Cobwebs and Strange."
Taken from the Who's A Quick One LP, this instrumental interlude starts off with a kooky melody being played out on horns. Though the drums are a bit muted at the first section, the next musical passage is the moment where Moon truly punishes his kit. The actual execution of the solo plays out almost like a round-robin style musical duel, with the speed of Pete Townshend's solo guitar being one-upped every time by Moon's impeccable energy behind the kit.
The song even takes somewhat of a comedic turn when Moon lets out a wail just before going into one of the fastest sections, almost as if he's a mentally unstable man who's just been let loose. Then again, this kind of drumming might owe its genius to the more unhinged sides of the brain.
