12 Controversial Songs That Were Stolen

9. 'The Ghostbusters Theme' - Ray Parker Jr

Where It Was Stolen From: 'I Want A New Drug' - Huey Lewis And The News

The story goes that Huey was invited to pitch a song for the then in-production film Ghostbusters. He declined because he was too busy writing a song for Back To The Future. The following year, Ghostbusters was released and the theme, written and recorded by Ray Parker Jr, went straight to number 1.

Huey, convinced that the similarities between his recently-released single 'I Want A New Drug' and Parker's theme tune were too strong for it be a coincidence, sued and while he didn't win, the suit was settled out of court in his favour.

It was later revealed that Huey breached a non-disclosure agreement by talking about the whole affair. Bustin' makes him feel good, apparently.

But hang on, if we're getting litigious here Huey, strictly speaking it would be wrong not to acknowledge how much your tune sounds like more of a rip off than Ray Parker's effort.

Just check out the similarities between I Want A New Drug and The Jackson Five's 'Shake Your Body Down To The Ground'. It's a good job the Jackson family aren't litigious.
