12 Greatest Hard Rock Frontmen Of The '90s
3. Andy Wood - Mother Love Bone
There are always those frontmen that are destined to become famous. While most bands have to fight tooth and nail to get their fanbase, there are also singers like Steven Tyler and Freddie Mercury whose stage presence is undeniable from the first time you see them. Even though Andy Wood never saw his star rise to the top of the rock heap, he made an impression on the entire 90's scene going forward.
Originally set up in the funk band Malfunkshun, Wood really found his calling when he put together the band Mother Love Bone. Though the band were still playing that mix of funk, hard rock, and classic rock, it was Andy who was always the star of the show. With each performance, Andy would walk into a show and play it as though it were an arena gig, as he strutted like a mixture of Robert Plant and Freddie Mercury in one.
However, the future of the band ended in one fell swoop when Wood died of a drug overdose just a few days shy of the band's debut album release. Andy Wood may not have had the chance to be one of rock's heavyweights, but everyone from Soundgarden to Pearl Jam to Alice in Chains have singled him out as the true rockstar of the Seattle scene.
