12 Greatest Hard Rock Frontmen Of The '90s

10. Zack de la Rocha - Rage Against the Machine

With rock getting angrier with each passing year, every other singer seemed to be rebelling against something. Whether it was the glossy phoniness of the hair metal bands of old or railing against their troubled home lives, these vocalists had more than their fair share of anger. Though if there was anyone who turned their rage into pure magic, Zack de la Rocha is it.

Originally coming from a hardcore punk background, things began to turn a corner for Rocha once he formed Rage Against the Machine with Tom Morello. With the powerful riffs blaring underneath him, Rocha stepped up to the mic and spewed some of the most impressive lyrical venom of the decade, talking about everything from police brutality to unjust war practices happening across the United States.

While his delivery is better than most other singers, it's almost stretching to call what Zack's doing actually singing. It's the rare case that falls somewhere in between rapping and singing, but what he lacks on the melodic front he more than makes up for in his passion. Regardless of whether or not your beliefs align with his own, you believe every word that he is singing whenever he opens his mouth. Even when things seemed to get homogenized in the alternative sphere, Zack de la Rocha's voice was the pure sound of rebellion.
