12 Hard Rock Bands That Quit In Their Prime

8. The White Stripes

The White Stripes were a gift from the hard rock gods at the turn of the century. After being bogged down by the pretentiousness of more mainstream acts, this duo out of Detroit stripped all the gimmicks out of the way to show what rock and roll was really all about.

Even when the band were reaching beyond their comfort zone, they still came out with stellar songs on albums like Icky Thump and Get Behind Me Satan. Everything seemed to be in place after Jack and Meg White recharged their batteries working with bands like the Raconteurs, but we were dealt a heavy blow once we reached 2011.

After a few rumblings of activity from the band here and there, most fans were hyped for a new album when the band announced that they would no longer be performing together. When everything was sorted out, Meg's enthusiasm for the music had dissipated, leaving Jack to think about life as a solo act rather than being tied to his namesake band. Though there are thousands of fans still aching to see these guys back together again, you can't deny the effect that The White Stripes had by single handedly reconstructing millennial rock and roll.
