12 Hard Rock Bands That Quit In Their Prime
7. Nirvana
For most modern rock outfits, Nirvana is one of the reasons why they make music. The band's time in the spotlight during the early 90's not only cast out the phony hair metal of the 80's, but also signaled a new musical revolution which came to be known as alternative rock.
Though the band was being heralded as the next rock gods, the adulation seemed to be too much for Kurt Cobain to handle. After two records on a major label, Cobain found himself unhappy with performing and delved deeper into his drug addictions. Just when many thought he would recover, it all came to a stunning end when Cobain was found dead in his home, having been shot in the head with a shotgun.
With Cobain being the singer, songwriter, and overall artistic force, it made too much sense for the band to continue any further plans under the Nirvana name. To add insult to injury, the band's career trajectory showed them getting into more experimental and heavier material on their previous record In Utero. Cobain was one of those artistic minds that had so much more to give, but we should all be grateful that we were at least able to catch a glimpse of his genius.
