10. Heaven Shall Burn Mybestfriends.com
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9FuEZN_zY0 With a band name like that, Heaven Shall Burn simply have to deliver the goods and that they do. This German metal band have always offered a consistent blend of death metal vocals and metalcore breakdowns throughout their career, that has only matured over the years. Deaf To Our Prayers is their fourth album, released in 2006, the LP featured vastly improved production values which significantly cleaned up the delivery and effectiveness of the band's often political messages. Though the album features a number of brilliant, crunching songs, Mybestfriends.com is both the most instantly satisfying and enduringly potent track on the record. Mybestfriends.com relentlessly targets the pointless, shallow nature of the internet, and in particular social media websites, criticising their addictive and deceiving qualities through its seething lyrics. The track opens with a surging chorus of drop-tuned guitars, before being joined by the deep, meaty vocals of the band's frontman Marcus Bischoff. The song's riffs and structure echo the crushingly abrasive qualities of sludge metal bands like Mastodon and Kylesa, with the psychedelic qualities removed for a far more hard-hitting finish. It's through tracks like these that Heaven Shall Burn manage to intrigue even the most seasoned of metalcore fans.
