11. Mastodon
Mastodon is one of those rare bands who haven't really struck out all that much in their career. Fans have certainly had their favorites, but each record that these guys have put out have always been up to a particular standard when it comes to the best that progressive music has to offer.
At the same time, it has been awhile since the band have graced us with new music, with the last full-length project Emperor of Sand dazzling us in 2017. While the group have been working on their latest record as of late, Bill Kelliher has stated that progress is still being made in the era of social distancing.
As opposed to the band's previous few records, Kelliher claims that the music doesn't seem to be as meticulously crafted at this stage while also stating that the album could feature multiple vocal harmonies on some tracks. Given the band's more subdued EP in 2017 with Cold Dark Place, it might be time for the band to release an album to flex their muscles as songwriters. A clear release date hasn't been announced thus far, however we do know that up to 20 songs are in the works for this new record. It might be a different look for Mastodon, but given this band's track record, it will hardly disappoint.
