12 Hugely Anticipated Hard Rock Albums Coming In 2020 (And Beyond)
5. Latest From Deftones
Out of all the bands to come out of the nu metal scene, Deftones have always been the most consistent. Even if they change their sound from record to record, the band have done an exquisite job at mixing up genres from shoegaze to metal to ambient music. After the release of Gore in 2016, many fans are now aching for what these guys have coming down the pipeline.
While many of the band's fans have expected a shake up with every record, frontman Chino Moreno has said that this new record may be quite a radical departure from the band's usual songwriting format. Seeking a new direction, Moreno has stated that the next project the band will take on will be featuring a much greater presence of guitarist Stephen Carpenter and drummer Abe Cunningham, with Chino acting as a collaborator rather than the main songwriting force.
For any band, this type of move would seem absolutely disastrous, but Carpenter's brilliant guitar riffs along with his work with bands like Fear Factory may result in something we've never heard before. From the first few sessions, Moreno has even called this new venture miles heavier than their previous output. Since the more recent Deftones albums have held an electronic bent, it's good to hear that the next record will be a return to their raw side.
