12 Most Brutally Heavy Metal Albums EVER
2. Iowa - Slipknot
The nu metal scene was a genre that lived and died on how heavy it could be. From the time Korn's debut came out in the 90's to later acts like Limp Bizkit, these acts rode the spectrum of the most searing metal ever made and making an absolute mockery of the entire genre as a whole. While it may have been easy to put Slipknot's mask-clad act in the mockery category, Iowa showed that they were much more than their gimmick.
Coming off of a mammoth tour to support their debut, the band came back to the studio absolutely fried. In dire need of new material, the band had the idea of taking the most disturbing moments of their debut and amplifying them to the nth degree. From the opening blast of the intro "(515)," this album is an absolute heavyweight, as it uses its listener as a punching bag across tracks like "The Heretic Anthem" and "People = s**t."
Even the more "crossover" tracks like "Left Behind" are still absolute throwdowns that don't sacrifice heaviness for commercial exposure. With the album reaching #1 in multiple countries, it seems that not even the mainstream fans could get enough of this beautifully disturbed piece of metal perfection.
