12 Most Hated Classic Rock Songs (On Great Albums)

4. Zombie Zoo - Tom Petty

Tom Petty was already a star for most of the 80's, but he hit a whole new level of success with his first solo album Full Moon Fever. On the strength of songs like "Free Fallin" and "Runnin Down a Dream," Petty's career got a second wind and led to him putting out some of his greatest material almost 20 years since his debut.

The record features everything you'd want from a Petty record, but the final note "Zombie Zoo" feels more silly than it does earnest. Though most of the record was written by Petty and ELO mastermind Jeff Lynne, the bulk of this tune has the words "B-side" almost pre-stamped on it. The song even had more star power behind it when 60's crooner Roy Orbison was brought into the studio to provide backup vocals, but even that soothing voice couldn't save this tune.

When going through his back catalog, Petty found a tune called "Waiting For Tonight," which was originally slated for the record but was discarded at the last minute. Full Moon Fever is one of Tom Petty's many highlights, but if "Waiting For Tonight" was put in "Zombie Zoo"'s position, the record could have been even more classic.
