12 Most Hated Hard Rock Songs (On Great Albums)

1. Escape - Metallica

Ride The Lightning may very well be Metallica's greatest musical effort. Though the band have more celebrated works like Master of Puppets or the Black Album in their catalog, this was the moment where the band found their groove for balancing melodic instrumental passages with some of the heaviest riffs in the entirety of the metal scene.

For any metalhead, this record is practically flawless, but the band were pressed by their record company to make something more radio-friendly. With only 7 tracks on the record, the band went into the studio for a few days and knocked out the song "Escape," which has gone to be one of their least loved songs from their early years.

Even when the band showed their label, they still didn't pick the song as a single and released the headbanger "Creeping Death" instead. To this day, the song has not had much of a shelf life, with it only being played live once when the band played the album in its entirety. The biggest detractor of the song over the years has been James Hetfield himself, who often cites it as his least favorite Metallica track. The 80's were Metallica's decade to truly conquer, but this song sees the band treading water rather than ripping your head off.
