12 Most Hated Hard Rock Songs (On Great Albums)

9. Hello America - Def Leppard

As the rock genre started to get heavier, a group of bands from Britain set off a harder update of the British Invasion. Instead of having the blues-inspired tunes of the 60's, these bands created infectious riffs that came to epitomize the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

While not all of these bands gained massive attention, Def Leppard were one of the main groups from the scene who broke through to a mainstream audience. However, the band were met with scorn from their fanbase thanks to the first single they released. With all the Hollywood namechecks in the lyrics, "Hello America" demonstrates just how determined this band was at reaching the Stateside market.

That didn't really sit well with the British faithful, who assaulted Leppard at the Reading festival with countless beer cans throughout their performance. Ironically enough, the desire for American attention paid off in the long run for the band, as they became rock gods in the States before they even had a proper British hit. Ever since their debut, the band have rarely played the song live aside from a few one-off performances. There's no disputing the mark that Def Leppard has made on the world of rock, but this was one example of the band starting off on shaky ground.
