12 Most OVERRATED Hard Rock Bands Of All Time

9. P.O.D.

As grunge started to wane after Kurt Cobain's death, nu metal was definitely interesting for its time. Sure, we may laugh at it now, but the era of angry suburban kids singing about their crappy home lives was actually pretty compelling with early bands like Korn leading the charge. So how do you screw up this genre's potential? You started putting in wholesome messages.

Coming from the hard rock scene of California, P.O.D.'s brand of nu metal was much more in tune with virtuous practices than your typical tortured souls. Instead of being about letting out your grief, these guys were taking the same rough tone of modern acts and infusing them with Christian sentiments. There is certainly nothing wrong with bringing a positive message to your fanbase, but sometimes the execution could go a little too far in the opposite direction and sound like they were pandering to their fans with a diet version of something like Deftones.

Also, sprinkling in message songs about topics like abortion have definitely aged some of the band's early material for the worse. It's great that some fans found refuge in this band, but the relentless self-affirmation anthems become a little too concentrated for it to be considered hard rock.
