8. Poison
Poison has been heralded as one of the last great hair rock bands still going strong today. After their prime time in the late 80's, the band has now been known as being a potent live act featuring one of the best rock stars of the decade in Bret Michaels. However, there's not too much left to sift through once you get past the hairspray.
Right off the bat, it's completely understandable why the band got to where they are. Songs like "Talk Dirty To Me" and "I Want Action" do have some legitimate hooks that refuse to leave your head for days on end. On the other hand, it starts to get a little fuzzy when the band starts to get labelled as one of the greatest ROCK bands of the time.
From the cartoonish way they dressed to the singalong choruses, these guys weren't so much a rock band as they were a pop band using metal as a decorative hat rather than a legitimate musical antecedent. Though songs like "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" have held up as classics for karaoke bars everywhere, Poison's rise to fame marks the first instance of the boy bandification of the hair metal genre.
