12 Perfect Classic Rock Albums With NO Bad Songs
3. Aladdin Sane - David Bowie
David Bowie was never known for just doing the same album twice. Across his entire discography, every single experience from the Thin White Duke felt like an entirely new venture that sought to expand the horizons of what this little genre called rock could really do. Even when trying to replicate his past success with Ziggy Stardust, Bowie wanted to aim even higher than before.
Framed as Ziggy goes to America, Aladdin Sane is the perfect companion piece to the album that made Bowie who he was today, with songs that were a lot more ramshackle than you might expect. When you look at this album in comparison to the songs off of Ziggy, there's a lot more attitude accounted for here, almost like Bowie is staking his claim to be the king of glam rock. From the raw sounds of something like Cracked Actor or Watch That Man, this is a man going back to what he knows best and warping minds in whatever way he knows how.
Outside of the harsh side of things, this is also where we start to see the beautiful side of Bowie get even more elegant, from the barfly ode on Drive In Saturday to the James Bond sounding closer Lady Grinning Soul. After already reframing where rock could go, this was proof that Bowie was just now starting to hit his stride. Even more weirdness was sure to come.
