12 Perfect Classic Rock Albums With NO Bad Songs
2. Led Zeppelin I - Led Zeppelin
Despite the flower children reeking havoc across the States and Europe, there was a lot more dangerous sounding rock music rearing its head towards the end of the '60s. From the garage rock of the Stooges to the sounds of raga rock coming from Jimi Hendrix, the aftermath of the Vietnam War left a lot of people wanting something with a bit more edge to it. Whereas a lot of people tried to build hard rock from the ground up, Led Zeppelin showed us the way forward by going right back to the blues.
Originally framed as just an experimental supergroup made by Jimmy Page, this is like striking solid gold right out of the gate. Although a good half of the songs on Zeppelin's debut are covers of old blues standards, you'd swear that they were writing them from the ground up, from the doom and destruction coming from Babe I'm Gonna Leave You to the amazing journey that comes from a song like Dazed and Confused.
There are even hints at where Zeppelin (and rock for that matter) were going to go in the next generations, like the Eastern flavor of Black Mountainside or the borderline metal riffage of Communication Breakdown. For any of the fairweather rock fans, this is the kind of record that will change your life in between its runtime.
