12 PERFECT Metal Albums With NO Bad Songs
8. Iowa - Slipknot
At the start of the '00s, some metalheads weren't quite sure what to make of Slipknot. Though their debut album served up some of the heaviest riffs to come out of the nu metal genre at the time, many were uncertain as to whether they had any real staying power outside of their masks and intense music. The band may not have been sure where to go either, but what unfolded ended up being one of the heaviest records ever released by man.
From front to back, Iowa is one of the most savage assaults of the early '00s, with Corey Taylor shrieking his brains out on almost every other track. Not wanting to repeat the sound of their first record, the band took all of the disturbing moments of their debut and channeled them even further to create some of the heaviest tracks of their career like on "People = s**t" and "Left Behind."
Whereas other nu metal bands of the day were becoming too cartoony to be taken seriously, Iowa is about as close as Slipknot came to actively weaponizing their aggression in musical form. People have certainly tried to top something like this, but in terms of heaviness, no one has done it better since.
