12 PERFECT Metal Albums With NO Bad Songs
9. Vulgar Display of Power - Pantera
For an up and coming metal band, no one expected the power of Pantera in the early '90s.
After years of trying to make it as a glam metal act, the band stripped everything back to canvas on Cowboys From Hell, trading in their spandex for some of the meatiest riffs ever to be played in metal. It seemed like the peak of aggression at the time, but these guys were just getting started.
Returning to the studio with Terry Date, the band made it their mission to outdo their previous record, with Vulgar Display of Power having some of the bands' most indelible headbangers. From the shout of Phil Anselmo on the opening track "Mouth for War" to the slower tempos peppered throughout "This Love," this album is practically filled to the brim with classic cuts.
Though Anselmo may be out front, this is Dimebag Darrell's masterpiece, as every single song is led by another classic riff like the stomping "A New Level" or the underrated masterpieces like "By Demons Be Driven." This album is also responsible for giving metalheads around the world the song "Walk," whose intense groove demands you to headbang whether you like it or not.
Pantera may have been a heavy hitter in the game already, but a record like this saved metal from falling into obscurity in the '90s.
