12 Unbelievably Underrated Beatles Tracks

11. Honey Pie (The Beatles "The White Album")

"Honey Pie" is Paul McCartney's homage to the British music halls that he frequented as a kid. Macca was a huge fan of traditional entertainment and would often incorporate this into his music.

One of the coolest things about the track is that it was recorded in just one take, adding more to the live aspect of the stage that he wanted to create. McCartney purposefully went out of his way to respect the music hall genre that he grew up with and dismissed anybody who accused him of parodying the era. To make it as realistic as possible, McCartney added a sound effect on the top of his voice that made it sound like a scratchy record. He later said this was a nod to this childhood.

For some reason "Honey Pie" is disregarded as just one of Macca's fruity, over-sentimental numbers. By the end of the 60s, Macca and Lennon were already carving out very different musical paths. McCartney was more focussed on the quirky and romantic side of storytelling (in a good way of course) with Lennon taking more of a personal and eccentric approach to his music.

It was great because we got classics such as "Honey Pie" but it was also sad because the fusing of Lennon and McCartney songs were becoming more and more obsolete.
