12 Unbelievably Underrated Beatles Tracks
8. Don't Let Me Down (Past Masters, Volume Two)
"Don't Let Me Down" was recorded during the tumultuous Let It Be Recordings. By this time, the band was not in a great place and tensions were extremely high. In the end, the song wasn't included on the album but it was played during their infamous appearance on the rooftop of their Apple Corps headquarters in Saville Row, London.
The live rooftop performance was the final time the band played live to a watching crowd. You can see on McCartney's face in the footage that he was incredibly happy to be up there playing the songs to the public. His love for playing live had never faded, unlike the rest of the band.
As a result, we get a few beautiful moments upon that rooftop, much of them during this song. There are smiles, there are harmonies, and there are head shakes and body movements that take you right back to the old days.
Unfortunately, "Don't Let Me Down" was released as the B-side to the much more popular and well-known "Get Back" which is probably the reason why it doesnt get a lot of airtime.
