9. The Residents Are The Beatles In Disguise

The Residents may have slipped further and further underground throughout their career, but during the late 70s/early 80s they had quite a following in the new wave scene. The four-piece are famously anonymous, never appearing in public without their costumes. This, coupled with several knowing winks from its members, led to many rumours that the band were actually The Beatles in disguise. For starters, their first album Meet The Residents was a defaced version of the album Meet The Beatles. They released a single comprised of stitched-together Beatles samples called The Beatles Play The Residents And The Residents Play The Beatles - a single that actually made it onto several fan-compilated bootlegs of Beatles outtakes. There's also the fact that The Residents put out the story that one of The Beatles reportedly was a fan of the defaced album cover. For it to be true, of course, John Lennon and George Harrison would have to still be around - The Residents are still going strong, after all. So maybe The Residents aren't The Beatles... But if not, then who are they? A few famous interviewees speculate on their identities in this trailer for a documentary about the band. Could they be comprised of Barbara Streisand, Paul McCartney, Bono and Eddie Van Halen? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ov5EqmOeuPY
