1. Bosnian Rainbows
experimental/space rock/art punk And next up in our VIP section are Bosnian Rainbows. For all those mourning the loss of The Mars Volta, as we all are, here arrive Bosnian Rainbows in the distance (and of course I did mention Closure In Moscow earlier). Built around Mars Voltas musical lynchpin, Omar Rodriguez Lopez, fellow Martian Deantoni Parks, vocalist Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes and keyboard player Nicci Kasper. The group initially began as an extension of Lopezs Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group, but took on a life of its after The Mars Volta went on hiatus, and of course became central focus outright when Mars Voltas split was announced. Bosnian Rainbows focuses on a starker, more direct and more restrained style than that of Voltas pyrotechnic, extended wig-outs, but as Lopez has said himself the same influences are here, theyre just keying in on different aspects of those influences. Its all here though; prog, space rock, psychedelia, ambient and funk, but theres a magnifying of new wave, more alternative rock, more electronic and more art punk influences. http://youtu.be/L7olyzye4S4
