14 Best Synthwave Albums You MUST Listen To

5. Power Glove - Playback (2019)

If you've played the incredible spin-off FarCry: Blood Dragon, or its less favoured Trials crossover, you'll have heard of Power Glove. Taking some classic themes from stalwarts like Robocop, Terminator, Commando, and just about every 80's film you can think of, the Aussie duo breathed life into the genre with their takes on them for both soundtracks.

But this year, they've launched their debut album, Playback. Whilst moving away from the soundtrack side of things, it's still a beautiful look at the era that bore the electronic styles we've all come to love today. An eclectic mix of slow jams, dancefloor fillers and everything in between, Playback doesn't hold anything back.

Channeling everything retro, from the sounds, vocal samplings, even the album cover is pure Kung Fury-esque (which, in itself, is a riff on the 80's). Heck, there's even a track called Firebird, which is the one of the de facto cars used in about anything retro and stylish.

So if you're hankering for more after the adventures of Rex "Power" Colt, this is the album to follow up with.
