14 Best Synthwave Albums You MUST Listen To

3. The Midnight - Endless Summer (2016)

The Midnight have always been a bit of a contentious one when it comes to synthwave "purists": are they a synthwave band with vocals, or are they a electronica band with synthwave elements and a saxophone?

For this list, they are the former, with Endless Summer being a delicious slice of the lighter side of synthwave. Heavily inspired by Drive, the duo formed in 2012, getting straight to work on a few EP's and singles in the coming years.

But it was Endless Summer that launched the band where they are now, and it's not hard to see why. Breaking away from the heavier trappings of synth/darkwave, Endless Summer sings of well, that, and the glory days of past. Complimented by Tyler Lyle's airy vocals, it's the perfect album for those late night drives to the beach.

Now, you may have read the saxophone bit and wondered where that fits in? Just check out lead single, Vampires, and you'll see. It's the perfect pairing of blues and synth, with the video featuring classic anime, Wicked City, of all things.
