14 Best Synthwave Albums You MUST Listen To

12. Carpenter Brut - Trilogy (2017)

Is calling three EP's released together as one package an album? Maybe. But it's not going to detract from it being an incredible body of work in any way.

Comprised of three EP's, also released in 2017, Trilogy is eighteen tracks of what makes them and Pertubator the masters of the darker side of synthwave.

Steeped in macabre imagery and heavily influenced by slasher films of the 70/80's period of cinema, Carpenter Brut deliver on a mix of John Carpenter sinister undertones and pounding floor fillers. Also, any artist that can take the song Maniac from Flashdance and make it a synthwave anthem is going to be great in anyone's books.

Follow up debut Leather Teeth, that came out a year later, is also a beautiful slice of synth loveliness, but Trilogy shows the confidence in 'Brut to come out swinging with a heavy catalogue right out of the gate.

If you're ever lucky enough to have them playing a live show near you, it's worth checking out. The accompanying stage show isn't suitable for youngsters, but you'll come out grinning from ear to ear.
