15 Alternative Christmas Songs That Will Still Make You Feel Festive

11. December Will Be Magic Again - Kate Bush

If you€™re after a seasonal tune from our Kate then it€™s not as if you€™re going to be left short changed. Most recently, she released a collection of snowy-themed numbers with the superlative 50 Words For Snow, an otherworldly concept album that features, among other things, fifty words for snow. Prior to that she€™d thrown Home For Christmas onto the b-side of her 1993 single Moments Of Pleasure so it seems pretty clear that Mrs Babooshka likes a bit of the old seasons greetings.

But by far the loveliest of her seasonal output is December Will Be Magic Again, specifically the live version presented here from her 1979 Christmas Special. Not only does she look completely bewitching but her vocals are quite exquisite - she waxes lyrical about Bing Crosby, kissing under the mistletoe and, er, being inside Oscar Wilde€™s mind. Stunning stuff. There are one or two other alternative versions kicking about, including the official single release, but this is the one you want. And if Kate says December will be magic again then it most certainly will be.

Chris James Peet says hello. His interests include hoping for the best and sitting in chairs. He much prefers moaning to counting his blessings and suffers fools gladly. He also likes to look out of the window and check what's in the fridge but he hates standing up, dripping taps and reality.
