15 Awesome Albums To Put Down Cynics Of 21st Century Music

4. PJ Harvey - Let England Shake - 2011

Pj Harvey Polly Jean Harvey had already won the distinguished Mercury Prize in 2001, with 'Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea', but in 2011 became the first artist it to win it twice, with this musical gem. Made up of alt/folk rock and gritty, mystical lyrics predominately about England and it's part in World War I to current wars in the Middle East, and Harvey's outstanding voice, 'Let England Shake' is a statement. This album makes more of a mark than the rioters on London streets ever did, and expresses pain, anger and distain in beautifully composed lyrics. Highlights include 'The Words That Maketh Murder' and Harvey's haunting vocals on 'England'. Who said no one makes political music anymore?
