15 Awesome Albums To Put Down Cynics Of 21st Century Music

3. Metronomy - The English Riviera - 2011

Metronomy1 Comprising of funky bass lines, disjointed guitars and synths, Metronomy's 'The English Riviera' is a gorgeous record. Opening with the sound of waves lapping on the beach, and seagulls, it sets the tone for the rest of the album. Joseph Mount sings of heartbreak, over a crazy good beat. 'The Bay' is surely an underdog when it comes to floor fillers, and 'Everything Goes My Way' is a chilled duet with light, calm guitars before reaching the climactic end with 'Love Underlined'. This album is a perfect soundtrack to a seaside town, and is perhaps the most relaxed of Metronomy's releases, which gives a rewarding and satisfying look into the heart of this underrated band.
