8. Behemoth
Possibly the biggest death metal band in the world at present, it would be wrong not include Behemoth in this list. Hailing from Gdansk in Poland, Behemoth formed in 1991 but had a considerable wait before their careers took off.
Their early album releases went generally unnoticed beyond the confines of the Polish death metal scene, but they started to climb the global ranks in 1999 thanks to the release of their fourth album, 'Satanica'.
'Satanica' saw the band move in a different direction from their black metal roots and they continued to rise in popularity throughout the 2000's.
Albums such as 'Demigod' and 'The Apostasy' kept the band steadily rising in fame but, more recent records like 'The Satanist' and 'I Loved You at Your Darkest' catapulted the band to what seemed like impossible heights for a modern death metal bands.
