7. Deicide

Decide would go through a handful of member and name changes before they settled on a winning formula in 1989.

Unlike other death metal bands, Deicide came into commercial success almost immediately, releasing some of the best-selling death metal records of the early 90's. The most notable of which was 1992's 'Legion', which was viewed as extremely ambitious in its musical approach at the time, and is now seen as a crucial release in death metal's timeline.

Like any good death metal band, Deicide have attracted controversy over the years, especially from religious sects and the general public. Most of this criticism comes from their gruesome and graphic lyrical content which has covered topics such as blasphemy and satanism.

Deicide have been one of death metal's most consistent names in terms of releasing material throughout their careers. In total, they have 12 studio records with 2018's 'Overtures of Blasphemy' being their most recent.
