14. Haunted

There are few songs by Disturbed where an introduction builds through an instrumental crescendo and into such a continuously intense song with such character, but ‘Haunted’ is one of them. With a heavy drum beat, powerful guitar riffs and very afforonting lyrics by a man who sounds like the words are trying to explode from his vocal chords, it's a hidden gem on 2008's ‘Indestructible’ album.

This song has very unique quirks about it that separate it from the band's other work. First, the bridge has an interesting effect where Draiman's vocals are doubled up, speaking directly over a secondary voice that’s half a second ahead of him, creating the feeling of an ominous prediction that something big is coming as you reach the final chorus.

The addition of other instruments to the bridge adds more power to it, and gives that last chorus more power. Finally, ‘Haunted’ also featured one of the shortest choruses (only two lines), but that doesn’t stop this song from being one of the most well-crafted and produced songs by such a powerful band.

Best Lyrics:

“Open your eyes and see the creatures,
For what they are,
A swirling mass of hatred and envy,
Don't be naive enough to think you're unaffected,
The conversion has already begun”
