15 Best Guitar Solos Of The Decade (So Far)

3. Disturbed - The Infection (2:22)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4v5M-fs_C0 Sadly one of the biggest metal bands there's been in years are still on a now half-decade-long hiatus, but 2011's Asylum was still one hell of a final note to leave on. Guitarist Dan Donegan has always stood out as being the best guitarist since Kirk Hammett to write really melodic and engaging solos you can both hum along to, but once you knuckle down to learn them, have a huge amount of technicality tucked away inside. Donegan is also one of the only players in the modern era that can really take a solo positively caked in copious amounts of wah pedal icing, and use it effectively without it sounding like overkill. Luckily although the majority of Asylum wasn't as strong as previous effort Indestructible, tracks like the above, Warrior and The Animal are easily among their best work, with The Infection's multi-stage fireworks display of technicality being a very underrated highlight.
